Custom Work
Much of the work I do is custom. Floorcloths of a certain size, or colors. Designs based on a fabric or tile used in the kitchen. Venetian plaster walls, panels, mirrors or other surfaces can be specified as to color, texture and sheen. It isn't a problem, it is what I do. If you have an idea, I can help bring it to life. Jennifer, at STUDIO Gallery is pretty dang good at this as well so stop by the gallery, see the work and let's see what we can come up with.
Pricing
Floorcloths
I price floorcloths at 20 cents a square inch. This generally works.
A 24" x 36" floorcloth would be $175
A 36"x 60" floorcloth would be $435
Sometimes for large floorcloths with simple designs I'll charge $25 per square foot. It would be $1008 for a 5' x7' floorcloth in most cases, if it is a simple one $875.
Venetian Plaster Panels
I am using a 2 tier system for this currently. Some panels, mostly the striped ones are less complicated than the ones that have multiple layers and require much more labor.
For panels with stripes, or bands of fairly solid color (VP is never just a color, that is a part of its appeal) I charge 40 cents a square inch. For the panels with multiple layers I charge 50 cents a square inch. Mirrors and other things I need to build fall into this pricing sceme as well, with a separate charge for the mirror glass.
Walls and other surfaces
This doesn't work so well with a formula. There are a lot of different finishes that can be done, some much more labor intensive than others. Ten dollars a square foot is what they call a ballpark estimate. There are a number of factor to consider including the condition of the surface, the type of finish, the working environment. I try to roughly estimate and charge time and materials for this type of work because it is hard to determine.
