Shows
2010
This year I will be doing more work with STUDIO Gallery, and less outside shows. I will be doing "Spring Open Studio" at the shipyard in the beginning of May. (May 1 and 2, 2010 see the website www.shipyardartists.com for more information). Because some artists feel that the open studio events are "overwhelming" a number of the regular artists who are not actually tenants will be prohibitted from showing this spring. This will leave me rather isolated in my cavernous basement space, so I am talking to some upstairs artists about using their space. I will post my alternate location when it is known.
As part of the open studio I will do some short demonstrations about working with Venetian Plaster. If I am not showing in my own space, I may do the demos in the basement. I'll have notices posted.
I once again have been accepted into the American Craft Council's San Francisco Show of American Craft in both the decorative fiber category (floorcloths) and mixed media/work for the wall (the Venetian Plaster panels). This show has been going through some struggles lately between the economy and the changing of the craft market, but I have always enjoyed doing the show and most likely will again.
I also have committed to a solo show in September at STUDIO. The dates will finalized soon. I'm already working on some pieces that have me jazzed to get to the studio. Hopefully my hands can create what my mind envisions. Yeah! That's what I'm talking about.
News and Press
The local cable company, Comcast, came to my studio to shoot a segment for the show "Inside City Limits." The show is only shown in San Francisco and features people and events of interest in the city. The segment originally aired the week of July 7th and, according to the producer, is likely to appear again. The show is also available "On Demand" for those of you with digital cable in SF. The show was shot in my studio and shows a wide variety of my work plus action shots (stapling canvas!, applying gold leaf!).
Jennifer Farris and I also did "Inside City Limits" in conjunction with the show titled "Delicious" that we did at STUDIO Gallery in March. We haven't seen that show, but it should also be available "On Demand".
Speaking of television exposure, a show I did for HGTV "That's Clever" finally aired in January. I was traveling at the time so haven't seen that show either, but then considering all the goofy stuff they had me doing, maybe that is a good thing. The show will air again (they cycle through the episodes). If I get a heads up about it maybe I will embed the video on the site.I had a floorcloth in a show at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art ( http://www.mmoca.org/). Designers created vignettes inspired by a piece of art in the collection, and my floorcloth was used in one of the vignettes. This was done through my association with the Artful Home (www.artfulhome.com), a craft and art retailer based in Madison WI. They do a good job of seeking out some of the finest craft artists in the country for their catalog and website.
